An individual who will claw her way to the top and trample over others without a second thought. To Locusta, all humans are animals who forego right and wrong the moment something catches their fancy (herself included). She is quick to cast those who have lost their use to her aside, using her expertise of court politics to find a new benefactor.    Truthfully speaking, Caster’s obsession with having a patron to support her comes from her less than savory experiences in life. After losing her life in a miserable way after the suicide of Emperor Nero, Locusta wishes to remain permanently tethered to the support of another in the hopes that something that terrible will never happen to her again.

Signum Invidia

A manifestation of the rumors, misfortune, and curses which surrounded the girl named Locusta. Its power is derived from the Goddess of Envy in Roman Mythology, who was said to bring about ruin to the envious with the power of her evil eye.     The Noble Phantasm normally acts as a passive aura which subtly influences causality around Caster to turn “unlucky”. Attacks which should normally be simple to land will only graze their target, helpful information suddenly becomes cloudy, and even one’s reaction time and thoughts will slow down by a small amount. However, it should be noted that the purpose of this aura is to “bring misfortune to others” and not to “bring fortune to the user”, so there is a chance allies or even Caster herself may be negatively affected by it.    If she happens to be backed into a corner, Caster has access to a more potent form of this Noble Phantasm activated through eye contact. Said to be the Mystic Eyes of the goddess they share a name with, they will drain the life-force of their target proportionate to the amount of invidia (envy) they hold in their heart. While this version of her Noble Phantasm is more of a trump card due to its more specialized capabilities and lack of range, it can easily neutralize an enemy caught unawares.

There was once a nameless slave from Gaul who was ostracized by the world around her. Said to bear the “mark of sin” due to the mysterious deaths which followed her like a plague, the girl frequently traded hands between nobles in her early years.    Due to the rumors and gossip from the other slaves, the girl would commonly spend her time sneaking out into the nearby wilderness. Immersing herself in the knowledge of the various herbs and foliage which surrounded the area, she would eventually learn of her body’s unique composition: that her bodily fluids were fatal to the touch, and even more so could be altered to administer different effects.    At some point around 30 AD, the girl was discovered and bought by a woman of great renown within the court of Rome. She was lifted from the dregs of society for one reason, the woman explained, and that was to concoct poisons for her uses. The girl was given a name of her own, food, and a roof to call home, serving her master faithfully. It was during this period where the girl learned about the inner workings of high society and how to manipulate those in power to her favor. Despite all this, the girl knew her zealotry would not save her from being cast aside like gutter trash.    And so she devised a plan.    The woman had a daughter who she knew was constantly poisoned in order to secure obedience. She had often seen her follow the woman around the halls in their younger years, as fair and just as she imagined. It was this child who the girl knew would secure her a safe future.    The girl convinced the child with sweet nothings and half-truths that her mother was nothing but an obstacle, a witch who tainted her with poison and lies. On that ordinary day in March, the woman was cut down by her own daughter under suspicion of treason. From that day forward, the girl lived a lavish life under the Emperor’s court, becoming one of her trusted confidants.    Alas, both the emperor and the girl failed to realize that love given is often not repaid in turn. Upon the abrupt ousting and death of her lifeline, the girl realized her time had long expired. She was dragged out to face the weight of her crimes, and was torn asunder by wild beasts.    With regrets in her heart, the story closed on the girl named Locusta.

Locusta’s finally back in action! I tried my best this time around to flesh out a lot of things her original profile was sorely lacking, as well as adding a few touch-ups to make her a bit closer to how I handle Fanservants nowadays. While I can’t say for sure that this will be her final iteration, I think I’m satisfied with her at this point in time.    (Updated for September 9th, 2021)
